EPISODE 1 – The Return of Haze

It’s 288 AAI. The last of humanity resides in Refuge One. The city’s living systems are dying and the prospects for human survival look grim. The Builders have a secret plan to save humanity. It is secret, because they cannot save everyone. If the plan can remain on schedule and isn’t disrupted by the rebellion, the Builder Ark will launch in no less than two years, and save humanity from being extinguished in its entirety.

At the outskirts of Refuge One where the protective skin that shields the city is anchored to the shield wall, The Derelicte is dragging itself through an open entry, after having crawled 6000km get here.

In a party hosted in the Church of Truuf, Coi and Haze Cat taste something that should be impossible, 300 year-old Haze.

Haze Cat witnesses a forced disappearance, the victim replaced by FingerCat ectype. Shocked by the sinister and heinous crime he’s witnessed, Haze Cat contemplates awakening Soleilla—an act T’Mond explictly forbade. Fearing Soleilla may be the rebellion’s only hope, he begins decanting her from a 288-year gestation.

In MassInc-1, a free mass of Haze Primordial enters the system and precipitates the release of a prisoner who is then rescued by the rebellion. Deep in the under-city, her mind begins to clear. The memories she recalls alien, terrifying and incomprehensible.

Even further underground, Soleilla wakes up, her memories wiped clean. Haze Cat is Soleilla’s protector, and she needs to stay put for her own safety. But Soleilla is in no mood to comply, hating her confinement. And so, the most powerful mind ever created escapes back to the surface and back into Refuge One.

It’s Survival Day, and on this day it is mandatory for every citizen to be present at Survival Square. Their minds are joined by the Church’s mind-melding digital drug—Truuf—to collectively remember the crimes of the “AI God.” Soleilla is present when rebel bombs slaughter the crowd. Emanon sees friends and icons die, and vows revenge.

Deadatron AK bags Odwon Ku. Overseer Kader orders Ku interred at MassInc-1. Odwon’s FingerCat ectype tells the public the funny shrines and offerings that keep appearing in Survival Square are a prank. Nothing to see here.
